Finding a Way Forward

Students meet with their therapist for a total of two hours per week. Students will receive additional support as needed for conflict and crisis resolution, as well as adventure-based intervention. This time can be spent processing and practicing deep self-exploration, either in the office or out in the community practicing skills, tools, and growing edges. There is an abundance of creativity and flexibility in deciding how to best use therapy time.

Our Approach

Therapy goals are oriented around a student’s own value system and are focused on prioritizing what she needs to navigate to get to where she is going next in life.

Goals

Goals are clarified at the beginning of a student’s stay and are assessed monthly with student and staff together as a team. We value the importance of self-reflection and feedback loops. We take a strength-based approach and build on the work that each student and family has already done in their healing journey. Our approach leans heavily on exposure therapy, more doing than talking, and side-by-side growing and handholding support for the student who wants to change but just can’t find the way.

Milestones

There are four milestones that guide the responsibilities, restrictions, and privileges of each student staying at the Milestones by Chrysalis transition house. Each milestone is attached to a core value: Respect, Management, Balance, and Ownership.

The Milestones

Respect

Integration and Orientation

Management

Time and Money

Ownership

Initiative

Balance

Nutrition and Socialization

There is no application or check-the-box process. Instead, each milestone has key goals and objectives around which to demonstrate competency. The staff assess on a weekly basis what level of support and freedoms a student is ready for so they can maximize their growth.

Talk Therapy

Students are regularly asked to reflect on the following domains and prioritize where their time and energy be spent at this point in their lives:

Family Relationships
Friendships/Social Relationships
Couple/Intimate Relationships
Employment
Education/Training/ Personal
Growth
Recreation
Spirituality
Citizenship/Community
Physical Wellbeing

Family Involvement

Family therapy happens via telehealth and occurs weekly, unless the time is better spent one-on-one with the student. Families have weekly scheduled calls with the residential manager to stay connected and informed with what is happening in the student’s day to day life.
